Tennessee Marriage License Requirements
- A Tennessee marriage license is required and may be applied for / purchased at any Tennessee County
Courthouse or County Court Clerk's extension office.
You may also
pre-register for you license online. Your
marriage license may be used the same day applied
for. There is no waiting period and no blood test. Pre-registered
wedding licence's may be picked
up at the Sevier County Courthouse or any of the
County Clerk extension offices. You must have the
Groom's last name, both be present with photo id's
and ready to sign your license.
- You must both be 18 or older. If you are under
18 you will need to contact the County Clerk's Office,
as there are many circumstances that must be addressed.
- If not a United States Citizen, you must both
present a valid passport.
- The license is valid for 30 days from the date
of issue ONLY.
- Marriage License Applications cannot be mailed
to you. Both parties must appear in person to sign
their Marriage License Application.
- If either of you have been divorced or widowed;
you will need to know the exact date that the divorce
was final, or date of death. If bride has had a
name change in her divorce and has not had her name
changed on her driver's license, she will need to
provide a certified copy of her divorce decree.
- You must both present a valid driver's license
from your home state OR a certified birth certificate.
You must present a social security card if your Social
Security Number is not on your drivers license.
- Fee for Out of State couples issued in Sevier
County is $38.50 cash or $40.50 on Visa or Mastercard.
The fee for in state residents is $98.50 cash or $100.50 on Visa or Mastercard.
- If a minor child is interested in applying for a marriage license,
you will need to contact our office for specifics.
- The $60.00 fee will be waived if
the applicants complete a 4 hour premarital preparation
course and present a certificate of completion,
which can be obtained through the County Clerk's
Office.
